“Against the Odds” – Elvington at War Weekend

Step backwards in time to World War Two and the time when RAF Elvington was a live bomber station. An atmospheric weekend as the Museum comes to life, with aircrew re-enactors in authentic period flying kit, aircrew mechanics hard at work on aircraft and our authentic military vehicles all moving around the Museum. Annual International Commemoration Day featuring a Parade of Service Standards, Drumhead Service and ‘Sunset’ Ceremony. Poignant and colourful gathering of veteran, current and trainee service personnel. Our annual event to commemorate the sacrifice of Allied aircrews across the history of aviation. A great chance to meet emergency services from across the region as we commemorate the hard work of our emergency services. Our own in house fire and rescue team will be providing demonstrations of our huge Pathfinder machines as we celebrate the great work of the emergency services. Our annual gathering to remember the sacrifice of the British and Free French aircrews that served at Elvington during World War Two, together will those that have served to deliver the freedom we enjoy today. Remembrance services at both Elvington village and a service in the Museum chapel where all are welcome to join us.
