The primary role of the Steward is to meet and greet the diverse array of visitors the Museum attracts. You will be based in the Admissions Office working as part of a close knit team of three to four. A major part of the role is the sale of admission tickets and gift aid collection, clear and concise communication of essential visitor information such as the location of the main and disabled car parks, the restaurant and toilets. The Steward must also be able to relay key event information on Events Days. Stewards have the responsibility of opening and closing the Museum exhibits. As a Steward, you are the public face of the Museum and as such, you act as an ambassador maintaining the Museum’s high standards of efficient and friendly customer service.
Opening and closing of the Museum exhibits
Meeting and greeting visitors in an efficient and professional manner. Taking visitor payments throughout the day, cashing up in accordance with in house procedures
Collecting Gift Aid declarations
Providing key visitor information upon arrival. Answering any visitor enquiries and questions and knowing when and who to refer a visitor to if they have a technical question/complaint
Maintaining vigilance when money is in the till, at least one Steward must be present in the office throughout the day when the cash is present
Carrying out site evacuation procedures duties as required and contacting first aiders on site
Able to communicate clearly and efficiently
Well-developed social skills, enjoys talking to people from all backgrounds
Prior cash handling skills preferable although training will be provided
Takes pride in delivering excellent customer service
Patient and tactful when dealing with visitors
Ability to work both within a team and independently

Assistant Catering Manager
Permanent contract with a 6 month probation period.
Responsible to: Catering Manager
The Assistant Catering Manager will assist the Catering Manager in the day-to-day management and operation of the NAAFI restaurant within the Yorkshire Air Museum. The restaurant has sitting room for 180 covers and also caters for large crowds (500 +) during Museum special events. In addition, the restaurant regularly caters for corporate buffets and refreshments as part of the Museum’s commercial activity.
The Assistant Catering Manager role will include preparing and cooking food including using planned menus and agreed working practices to meet customer and business requirements.
Supervise and train kitchen staff (under the guidance of the Catering Manager) to ensure that Health and Safety and other standards of hygiene and safety are met.
The candidate will be able to work with and manage an established team and be forward thinking. He/she will step into the position of the Catering Manager in his absence.
This position requires a flexible approach to working hours which will be for 5 days out of 7 days per week on a full-time basis (average of 37.5 hours per week with seasonal variation).
Preparation of food for breakfast, lunch and afternoon teas for visitors, museum staff and volunteers.
To act as Fire Warden and First Aider and ensure that Health and Safety legislation is adhered to and also maintain the highest possible standards of hygiene.
To be aware of and abide by the Museum’s Health and Safety procedures and associated policies.
Assist the Catering Manager with staff roster and meal planning and stock ordering.
To manage the NAAFI in the absence of the Catering Manager.
Daily cashing up in the absence of the Catering Manager.
Skills, Knowledge & Attributes:
Food preparation experience;
Good communication and customer service skills;
Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team;
Experience in supervising and organising a small team.
