We would like to inform potential visitors that the Museum is opening as normal despite localised flooding, and access roads are open. The installation of a new pumping station on site 3 years ago has alleviated the problems experienced at the main entrance gate in the past and the Office block, the only real area of the Museum previously affected, is no longer as vulnerable to flash flooding from heavy rainfall, as before.
A good number of visitors have indeed been taking the chance to enjoy the Museum in this unseasonably mild weather over the past few days and we thank all for their support.
Despite some exaggerated news bulletins in the national press, York City Centre is generally dry and remains open. Only the usual low lying streets immediately adjacent to the Rivers Foss and Ouse are affected and these have been subject to flooding for many, many years previously, but we extend our thoughts to those that have been affected this time around. It is important that the public are aware that the majority of York is open for business as usual.
The Yorkshire Air Museum will however be CLOSED on New Year’s Day (Friday 1st January 2016) as the museum is recognising this holiday for our hard-working staff and volunteers. We will be open again for the weekend from 10am – 16:00pm.
