As many people are aware, the Vulcan to the Sky Trust are planning a nationwide tour of VulcanXH558 to pay tribute to surviving aircraft of Britain’s famous V Force, comprised of the Avro Vulcan, Handley Page Victor and Vickers Valiant. The tour is scheduled for the weekend of 27-28th June, and Elvington is on the programme for Saturday27th, but no timing details are yet available.
As the Yorkshire Air Museum has HP Victor XL 231 “Lusty Lindy” proudly on display, the Museum is on the list of the venues for this special flight, and Elvington Airfield has been a favourite pre-season display practice venue for the team.
To raise the £50 000 cost of this tour, the Vulcan to the Sky Trust are seeking sponsorship by the public for XH558 to appear at each of the planned venues, and therefore we would like to encourage as many people as possible to do so. Just type in Vulcan to the Sky in your search engine to access their website and the display information tab gives details of the V Force Salute and other flying displays the Vulcan is appearing at. Once you have found this site, just click on your venue of choice and follow instructions to make your donation.
Let’s hope we can all pull together to make the Yorkshire Air Museum and the tribute to “Lusty Lindy” a priority for the tour.
The Museum is also working with the Vulcan to the Sky Trust to secure a Vulcan ‘swansong’ display during our 30th Annual Allied Air Forces Memorial Day on Sunday 6th September, so mark this date in your diary also.
