Our colleagues in France are undertaking a search for information about all French Air Force personnel who were based at RAF Elvington between 1943 and 1945. Over 2000 French airmen were based at Elvington in the only two French Heavy Bomber Squadrons within RAF Bomber Command.
Through the excellent research blog by Philippe Ducastelle (son of an Elvington airman): (http://halifax346et347.canalblog.com/), and in conjunction with the 345 & 346 Squadron Association (L’association des anciens et amis des groupes lourds) based in Paris, we are helping to contact both air and ground crew personnel or their descendants.
The names of all flight crew are known but details of the hundreds of ground crew are missing.
If you believe your relative was based at RAF Elvington, please contact Phillipe Ducastelle: (email@example.com) in French or the Yorkshire Air Museum’s permanent French Desk: (firstname.lastname@example.org) in French or English. We will be pleased to hear from you and pass on details.
