Support for the Yorkshire Air Museum & allied air Forces Memorial has been shown in lots of different ways over the years, but perhaps one of the most novel is the “Ride of Honour” which is coming to the Museum on Sunday 13th September.
Organised by founder Chris Eden, the Squires Cafe Bar based Ride of Honour is now an annual charity motorcycle ride in support of Forces based charitable causes. Having supported the Royal British Legion, Help The Heroes and other organisations, it was decided that the Allied Air Forces Memorial & Yorkshire Air Museum, which is a Registered Charity (No. 516766) should this year be the nominated charity to be supported by the Ride of Honour. In addition, the Museum with its large historic and atmospheric site, would make an ideal location for the destination of ride itself, and provide an interesting day out for riders signed up.
Some 200 entries have been received to date, and although pre-registration is now closed, it is still possible to sign up on the day at Squires’s Cafe Bar, Sherburn in Elmet, before 10:30am on the morning of Sunday 13th september. As the weather forecast is hopefully improving, a last minute flush of entries is expected.
The Museum is most grateful for this show of support and the impressive gathering of 200-300 motorcycles should be a spectacular sight, both at the Museum on arrival as they park up, and on the road to the Museum. It is a respectful ride, in honour of the service and sacrifice of service personnel, very much in keeping with the ethos of this Memorial Museum itself. An additional attraction for both entrants and visitors alike is a 16 piece Swing Band which has been booked for the event, adding to the atmosphere.
