Battlegroup North Update!

As many of you may be aware, very sadly the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Lancaster suffered an in flight engine fire during practice yesterday. The aircraft managed to return and land safely, but is out of commission now for some time and will not be conducting the scheduled flypast on Saturday 9th May at Battlegroup North. We extend our best wishes to all at the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and hope they can get “Thumper” back in the air as soon as possible.

However, on a more positive note, we are able to announce a new activity for the Show this weekend, with the “Tank Heroes” Mini Tank Driving Experience that is now attending the show!! This amazing activity gives ‘kids’ from 8 – 80 the chance to drive a mini tank and has previously be seen at major shows such as Waddington Airshow and Car Fest North, so we are delighted to bring it to Elvington.

There is the huge dispaly of historic military vehicles, the largest in the North of England, including a full size Sherman Tank, other tracked and half-tracked vehicles, trucks , Jeeps and everything in between!

There is the live Artillery Firing Display, Living History Groups and all the Museum exhibits and aircraft, including live engine runs of the WWI bi-planes!!

The Wargaming Show in the main display hangar takes place against the backdrop of our re-creation of Halifax bomber “Friday the 13th”, the original of which was displayed in Oxford Street, London, for the VE Day celebrations in May 1945. There could not be a better place to see these impressive miniatire battle scenarios, with most games being participation games for serious ‘gamers’ and novices to get involved with. Associated trade stands complete the picture.
