This past Sunday was Allied Air Forces Day at the Museum. Each year, representatives from air forces across the world join us, together with other significant representatives, to commemorate the sacrifice of those serving in global airborne conflict and peacekeeping duties, both past and present.
This year we commemorated the centenary of the establishment of The Royal Air Force and it was truly heartening to see such a diverse range of senior representatives and friends from Allied Air Forces across the world, all joining us in the late summer sunshine.
Museum director Ian Reed commented, “2018 is a very special year of centenary remembrance especially for the end of World War One and the birth of the Royal Air Force in 1918. The Yorkshire Air Museum & Allied Air Forces Memorial has played a significant role in the commemoration of these events in London, Paris and at its home base at Elvington and we are honoured to have been able to participate and make a practical contribution in keeping the memories alive.”
We hope you enjoy the large image gallery below that shows just some of the military and civilian representatives that were able to be with us.
