Against The Odds 2019 was the third year of welcoming the amazing re-enactor crews, dancers and singers to the Museum. The weekend was truly inspirational as visitors of all ages filled the Museum to capacity and we all enjoyed the wonderful atmosphere in the sunshine.
The theme this year was, of course, D Day so we were especially proud to welcome a group of wonderful D Day veterans on the Sunday. Our re-enactor teams are amazing, however it is truly inspirational to meet the real deal. The crowds of visitors who amassed around them bore testament to the affection that everyone holds for those who served on that monumental day in history.
Without exception, the core of the re-enactors who joined us have a passionate desire to educate visitors on the particular areas of expertise they have. From an amazing presentation on the unique and dark art of wartime bomb disposal and mine clearance to authentic mission briefings dedicated to recreating a specific D Day wartime mission, the Museum’s visitors were able to enjoy a great day out in the sunshine and learn more about the sacrifice made by so many people in World War Two that created the peace we are lucky to still enjoy in Europe today.
Handley Page Halifax Friday the 13th was carefully positioned outside for a rare photo opportunity and everyone enjoyed the chance to see this popular aircraft in the sunshine.
Here’s a large image gallery of pictures from the weekend. We hope you enjoy them and if you missed out on Against The Odds this year, check out our Events calendar to be sure of attending the next Museum event.
