School summer holidays can be a challenge for busy families. Finding great events that can entertain family members of all ages is a difficult thing to achieve. That’s why we’ve created the Vintage Props Family Day out as a great way to start the summer school holidays.
Come and join us for a day of celebration of Vintage propellor driven aircraft. Our collection of piston engined aircraft will all be running live throughout the day, plus we will all enjoy a flypast by the Royal Air Force Battle of Britain Memorial Flight’s Spitfire.
10.00 Museum opens
10.00 – 10.30 Live Music by Mick Hull
10.00 Nimrod Tours commence from 10.00am. *See below for full details and how to book.
10.30 – 11.00 Yorkshire Air Museum Fire Services – everyone loves a fire engine, stand well back as we hand over the hosepipes to the kids!
10.45 – 11.15 York Vintage Dance Group performance – the ever popular group show visitors young and old how to enjoy vintage dancing.
11.15 – 12.00 VINTAGE PROPS live engine runs – The first piston engined aircraft runs of the day as our Dakota and De Havilland Devon both come to life inside the grounds of the Museum.
11.50 – 12.20 More Live Music by Mick Hull. Mick’s music gives a wonderful atmosphere around the Museum.
12.30 – 13.00 Another ‘York Vintage Dance Group’ performance when everyone can join in and learn some new moves or practice those old ones.
13.00 – 13.30 Live Music by Mick Hull
13.30 – 14.15 VINTAGE PROPS live engine runs. All four of our vintage propellor driven aircraft will be running in the afternoon as our Devon and Dakota join the tiny Eastchurch Kitten and vintage SE5a WW1 fighter running live inside the Museum.
13.30 – 14.00 York Vintage Dance Group performance
14.15 – 15.00 Birds of Prey Flying Display by SMJ Falconry – learn about Falconry with our guests SMJ Falconry. If you have ever wished to learn more about beautiful birds of prey, this is a great chance to see these stunning expert aviators as the fly live around the Museum.
15.10 – 16.00 Yorkshire Air Museum Fire Services let the kids loose with those high powered fire hoses once again. Mums and Das, stand well back!
16:00 Royal Air Force Battle of Britain Flight Spitfire Flypast (subject to weather & serviceability)
15.30 – 16.30 Live Music and Dance Performances. Wind down the afternoon and enjoy more vintage music and dancing
*Explore inside our Nimrod XV250. A limited number of aircraft tours on the day, tickets on a first come, first served basis for a donation will enable visitors to experience the complex interior of this amazing aircraft.
17:00 Museum closes
Our Vintage Props Day will be a great family day out and a chance to see our propellor driven aircraft at close quarters.
