A great day of family entertainment to celebrate the start of the School Summer Holidays.
Join us for a day of celebration of Vintage propellor driven aircraft. Our collection of piston engined aircraft will all be running live throughout the day, plus we will all enjoy flypasts by the Royal Air Force Battle of Britain Memorial Flight’s Lancaster, Hurricane and Spitfire.
Experience Birds of Prey and learn about Falconry with our guests SMJ Falconry. If you have ever wished to learn more about beautiful birds of prey, this is a great chance to see these stunning expert aviators as the fly live around the Museum.
Live Period Music from harmony group Mick and Steve who will be with us to bring a great forties atmosphere to our day together with York Vintage Dance teaching us all some retro dance moves.
Eastchurch Kitten – The unique recreation of a World War One aircraft originally designed to intercept Zeppelin airships.
Royal Aircraft Factory SE5a – Our live SE5a will be running alongside the Kitten to provide a duet of vintage biplanes running together.
C47 Dakota – The original and historic Dakota will be coming to life, watch for our firefighting team lending a hand to pull through the propellor blades before starting, then the flames from the exhaust stacks as she shuts down her Wasp radial engines.
De Havilland Devon – The straight six engines of our sometimes temperamental Devon always come to life with a large cloud of smoke. There’s no mistaking when she’s starting up.
Battle of Britain Memorial Flight flypast – Enjoy the Lancaster, Spitfire and Hurricane from the Royal Air Force overhead at some point during the day, making this day out a great celebration of propellor driven flight.
Our Vintage Props Day will be a great family day out and a chance to see our propellor driven aircraft at close quarters.
