VE Day 75 Celebrations at The Yorkshire Air Museum
8th May 2020 - 10th May 2020
On the 8th of May 2020, it will be 75 years since the guns fell silent at the end of the war in Europe. Literally millions of people took to the streets to celebrate peace, to remember their loved ones and hope for a peaceful future. Meanwhile in the Far East, the fighting continued. The 75 Anniversary Celebrations we have planned here atthe Museum will provide everyone in Yorkshire with a truly wonderful opportunity to commemorate this momentous day in history.
“My Dear Friends, This Is Your Hour!”
Winston Churchill, VE Day 1945
Join us for a long weekend of celebrations of the victory and a commemoration for those who sacrificed so much to deliver a peace in Europe that we are still able to enjoy today.
From Friday 8th of May through to Sunday 10th of May, the historic Yorkshire Air Museum location will be transformed as we join the rest of Britain in remembering VE Day 75 years ago.
Come and Join Our Amazing Re-Enactors
Come along to the original World War Two site, our home here at Elvington, and join our re-enactors in celebrating VE Day as the people of York and Yorkshire did in 1945. RAF Elvington will be transformed to one of the buggest parties in Yorkshire as we celebrate the beginning of a new peace in Europe.
Whether you are a passionate collector of all things military, or you love finding those special vintage items, be sure to explore the stalls at our Vintage Marketplace to find that special thing to complete your period look.
See Halifax Friday the 13th outside in the Museum grounds
Our beloved Halifax Friday the 13th normally resides inside the main hangar. This weekend is a great chance to enjoy a close up view of this majestic World War Two aircraft outside in the sunshine as she also enjoys the end of years of combat.
Foe the Younger Ones Too
“Kids today don’t know they’re born.” We don’t believe that for one minute. We know how many of our younger visitors are very well informed about the past and they genuinely enjoy learning more. History isn’t boring, our VE Day weekend is going to be huge fun for everyone, regardless of age, so we’re planning lots of great things for younger ones to join in with too.
Saturday Evening – The Grand VE Day Celebration Ball
Our huge Canadian hangar will be the location for probably the biggest party to occur at RAF Elvington since WW2. Join us as we party throughout the evening with music from Echo 42 and The Seatones. We promise no rationing and a celebration you will remember long after the lights of the evening have faded.
