Celebrating pioneering achievements of aviation, our Pioneers of Aviation day will see some of our rarer and less celebrated aircraft taking centre stage.
If at all possible, the Battle of Britain Flight will be joining us overhead, subject to their current engine issues.
Our famous and unique 1853 Cayley Glider will be on ground level display as we celebrate the great Yorkshire pioneer of aviation, Sir George Cayley. Local visitors will have seen the glider in the recent regional TV series ‘Invented In’
Other pioneering aircraft will include the Blackburn Monoplane, normally suspended inside our main hangar, our AVRO 504 that was transported all the way to Thiepval for the Somme Anniversary last summer, plus our live propellor driven classics.
Our Museum Guides will be presenting two Discovery Talks on these remarkable pioneering aircraft and the inventors that created them throughout the day.
Live aircraft action will come from our piston engined classics, including WW1 SE5a fighter and Eastchurch Kitten, Dakota and Devon.
SMJ Falconry will be providing two live flying displays throughout the day. If you have ever marvelled at the grace and beauty of birds of prey, this is your chance to see then in flight at close quarters.
We will have period from the Retro Sounds of Mick and Steve, their sister ensemble were a huge hit at our previous Vintage Props event.
Join of for what will be a great family day out and a chance to keep the while family occupied in the summer holidays.
