Allied Air Forces Memorial Day
4th September 2016 @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pm
One of the core reasons for The Allied Air Forces Memorial’s existence. Each year, we gather with veterans, families and international members of armed forces to remember those that sacrificed so much for the people who came after them.
This year’s Allied Air Forces Memorial Day will be bigger than ever, with several flypasts and air displays. It promises to be both and exciting and memorable day. Now a firm fixture in the calendar, with the Museum now acknowledged by the EU as the home of Allied Air Forces Memorial, a diverse range of nationalities from armed forces across Europe will be with us. This year, representatives from as far afield as Finland, Russia and The United States will be present to represent the sacrifice of air crews across the Allied Air Forces.
Gates open at 10:00am, with a series of ground runs of our aircraft in the morning, including the SE5A, the Eastchurch Kitten and our mighty Nimrod XV250.
The parade will include inspirational music from the Yorkshire Military Band and the Thirsk branch Royal British Legion Corps of Drums, while The Royal Marines, The Green Howards and the Royal Air Forces Association will all have display stands.
Air displays and flypasts are scheduled featuring the RAF Battle of Britain Flight Lancaster, Spitfire and Hurricane. We are really looking forward to seeing multiple Rolls Royce Merlin engines in the skies over Elvington once again.
With more than 1,000 people anticipated to attend, this event is a wonderful way to remember those who served in all Allied Air Forces in World War Two and a fitting way to celebrate the closing days of the summer holiday season.
