Join us for this year’s Against The Odds weekend and experience life at RAF Elvington during World War Two. Our re-enactors will be here to explain what life was like here for serving Halifax Bomber air crews as they fought to liberate occupied Europe.
For 2019, to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the D Day landings visitors will see the Museum transformed into RAF Elvington on the eve of D Day. Learn more about what was happening here at RAF Elvington in the days leading up to D Day and how the Squadrons based here were involved in the liberation of Europe.
Joining us will be wonderful re-enactors who will be with us all weekend to explain the different roles played by men and women during World War Two including:
Aircrew re-enactors who will present briefings from original WW2 bombing raids. Crews in full, original WW2 flying attire alongside Halifax Friday the 13th.
The Museum’s Halifax bomber, Friday the 13th will be outside in the sunshine for everyone to see up close and enjoy great photographs of this unique aircraft. Our wartime re-enactors will be kitting up twice each day for your chance to re-create your own wartime pictures and also create family memories of your own.
Live music and dance
Halifax Mission Briefings Experience an authentic re-creation of a genuine Halifax mission briefing as it was done in wartime by our re-enactor teams. This is followed in the afternoon with a mission debrief to give visitors an amazingly accurate experience of the recollections of wartime crews.
Parachute Packing Displays Inside our main hangar. Find our more about the complex skills required my WAAF ground crews to pack air crew parachutes to save lives.
C47 Dakota Paratrooper Experience Climb aboard our C47 Dakota and experience the moments before a parachute jump as our guides show what it was like to be a paratrooper in WW2.
