Final Tragedy of French Airmen’s Service Recalled.

The forthcoming Remembrance Services at Elvington and the Yorkshire Air Museum will reflect on the 70th Anniversary of the repatriation to France of Elvington’s French Squadrons. This departure from the area saw a final, tragic loss of life from amongst the French aircrews.  Following the end of World War II on 8th May 1945, Sir Arthur “Bomber” Harris had allowed the French squadrons within the RAF to continue to patrol the skies over Germany, to ensure there were no pockets of resistance. He … [Read more...]

Announcement – Vulcan

As many of you will be aware, Vulcan XH558 suffered an operational problem yesterday with its front undercarriage locked in the down position. Whilst we are all disappointed with this, we wish the Vulcan team a safe return to Finningley today. However, the Allied Air Forces Memorial Day will provide a great spectacle for the public to enjoy, with … [Read more...]

Anti – Deterioration Engine Runs on Sunday 22nd February

During Sunday 22nd February, there will be the first aircraft engine maintenance runs of the season. We call these "anti-det" runs, as they are done to prevent the engines deteriorating and rather, keep them in functioning condition. The three aircraft that are planned to be started are the Douglas Dakota and De Havilland Devon twin-props and the  mighty Nimrod XV250 running its four Rolls Royce Spey engines. This will provide a lot of extra activity and noise, all under the watchful eye of … [Read more...]
